In the fragmented hydration market, where price points for performance products are on the rise, HydraPak is an OE supplier to numerous brands and has its own lightweight, flexible products.

New Nike Mantra: Move Faster, Get Closer

Apparently no longer content to “Just Do It,” the folks in Beaverton have pulled the trigger on a new strategy that figures to propel the Swoosh to more than $43 billion in annual revenues over the next 36 months. Outside of key international markets such as China (which topped $4 billion in FY17 sales), a key driver of the projected growth rate of more than 7.8 percent annually will be Nike’s ability to drive innovation, introduce desired new products at a faster clip, and draw a tighter bond with its most loyal consumers wherever they shop...

Numbers In Play
Week of 6/22-29
The Sports Insight Index is our opinion of what we think are the 28 most important public companies in the industry, 14 vendors and 14 retailers. Space considerations prevent us from tracking more, but we will make changes over time.
Index base of 100 is key to the closing prices of 12/31/14
Retail
The segment recovers with all 14 stocks posting gains to push Index up more than 3.5 percent for the week as the first half of 2017 came to an end ahead of the 4th of July holiday. Below our regular Index table for the period ended June 29, there is a separate table showing how all 28 stocks fared during the first half of 2017. As for the regular weekly period, the Federal Trade Commission review of the Cabela’s sale to Bass Pro Shops was extended to July 5, days before a scheduled July 11 special shareholders’ meeting in Sidney, NE to approve the merge of the outdoor specialists. According to reports, a settlement could be in the works where the combined company would be required to divest some stores in markets where there may be competitive concerns. Finish Line shares were likely bolstered by the banner’s “sunny” H2 outlook and growing business with Macy’s. Genesco Chairman and CEO Bob Dennis told an investment conference recently that the parent of Journeys and Lids will be operating with “significantly fewer” stores over the next five years due to slowing mall traffic. Kohl’s lands a new CFO next week, Bruce Besanko, formerly with grocer Supervalu and Office Depot. (206)
Brands
Segment lifts nearly 3 percent for the week with 12 of 14 stocks posting gains. Lululemon saw June 28 speculation from The Street that company will be taken private. Deckers Brands, meanwhile, was reportedly seeing its bankers prepare the California parent of UGGs, Teva and Hoka One One, preparing the company for a sale following shareholder pressure by Marcato Capital. Named as possible DECK suitors: Columbia Sportswear, VF Corp., Wolverine Worldwide and Steve Madden. Skechers’ shares have risen more than 18 percent over the last six months. And Fitbit, perhaps following the category trend Under Armour followed with its introduction of performance sleepwear earlier this year, is said to developing devices that can diagnose and monitor sleep apnea.
